First let us express our position on the EU. We think it's basically a good idea, and we think we should be in it, preferably in the missionary position - us on top. Unfortunately as things stand it is taking us doggystyle, mostly in the wrong orifice, and with frequent comfort breaks to allow Euro MPs to scuttle off and make their … er … deposits in Swiss banks. It wouldn't smart so much if they were even consistent, but as Private Eye points out this week, they persist in the notion that we are all so stupid that they can say anything that comes into their heads and we won't notice. Or, in the case of the French, give a toss. In Zimbabwe the proportion of the electorate voting against Mugabe was 47.9%. The EU's reaction? They support the MDC's decision to boycott the second round and described it as "a travesty of democracy". In Eire the proportion of the electorate voting against the Lisbon Treaty was 53.4%. The EU's reaction? The Irish people have got it wrong, and would they please have another vote, and jolly well keep voting until they get it right. One EU spokesman said of the Lisbon Treaty that the Irish were the only people who had voted to reject it. He seems to have forgotten that they were the only people who had the opportunity to vote on it at all. Next week, our grand "Spot the Bollocks" competition. Meanwhile, pass the KY jelly …. either on this site or on the World Wide Web. Copyright © 2008 The GOS This site created and maintained by PlainSite |
